Occy, TC, NC, Richie Lovett & Toby Martin Ready For Head-To-Head Surf Battle
COASTALWATCH | SURFAID CUP 2017
Tom Carroll and Mark ‘Occy’ Occhilupo, SurfAid Ambassadors and former World Surfing Champions, will go head-to-head in the SurfAid Cup Manly presented by Beecraft on Friday 22 September.
The two World Champs will also come up against famed surf journalist, Nick Carroll as well as Toby Martin, Maz Quinn, Chris Friend, Richie Lovett, Maz Quinn, Beau Mitchell amongst a lineup the top surfers in Sydney.
25 mostly – corporate teams aiming to raise at least $5,000 per team – have entered this year’s event. In the order of fundraising, teams will select a surfer/legend to join their team of four surfers. Last year the teams raised an incredible $120,000 for SurfAid’s Mother and Child health programs in Indonesia.
Sydney companies competing in the event include: Inloop Macquarie, Wilson Parking, Asquire Property, Altius Group, Global Surf Industries, BlackRock, Salesforce, Perpetual, Citibank, WPP Ikon & Switched On Media, Aquabumps, Beecraft, BWM Dentsu, Allan Hall, Australian Lawyers Surfing Association, The Perfect Wave, Shaw Brothers & Co and defending champions, The Paddlers. Groms teams from Waverley College and St Edwards in Gosford, and an all-girls team from Bondi will join the lineup.
SurfAid CEO, Andrew Judge says, “SurfAid embodies the positive values inherent in surfing, namely individualism, courage, dynamism, and adaptability, and seeks to harness these attributes in implementing projects with measurable results. This event enables SurfAid to give communities ‘a hand up, not a hand out’ so they can improve their own lives”.
Company executives who will pull on a rashie include Charles Lanchester, Stuart Dunn, & Jason Collins (BlackRock), Scott Somerville (Allan Hall Business Advisors), James Sawyer (Ikon Communications), Jamie Mackay (BWM Dentsu) Glen Butler (Macquarie), James Arnold (Citi), Jamie Gray (The Perfect Wave), Craig Smith (Wilson Parking), Eugene Tan (Aquabumps) and Paul Borrud (former Facebook) among many others.
The SurfAid Cup Manly presented by Beecraft will run from 9am - 5pm at Queenscliff Beach, Manly, on Friday 22 September (entry is free for spectators).
