Snapper Rocks Surfriders have cemented their place in Australian boardriding history today after winning the inaugural Queensland round of the Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle on the Gold Coast.

Snapper Rocks called upon the services of current Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Champion Joel Parkinson, five-time women’s World Champion, Steph Gilmore, World Tour qualifier Mitch Crews and Tour veteran Dean Morrison throughout the two-day qualifying event that has seen them qualify for next year’s National Final to be held on the Australia Day long weekend at Cronulla.

“On tour, if I lose a heat I get disappointed in myself, but the thought of losing a heat for my club is way worse,” laughed Parkinson, who also managed four straight wins in the skins component of the event, adding 1300 extra points to the team’s accumulative tally.

Arch rivals Kirra Surfriders placed second to Snapper Rocks despite current ASP World Title contender, Mick Fanning donning a singlet for the team. Kirra will still contest the National Final along with D’Bah Boardriders.

For the win, Snapper Rocks take home $2000, Kirra - $1500, D’Bah - $1000 and Burleigh - $500.

Despite not having a World Tour surfer on their roster, Coolum Boardriders still managed to join Snapper Rocks, Kirra and Burleigh in the final of the main event – the Tag Team – with 16-year-old Isabella Nichols digging deep for the club and posting several high scores.

In total, $105,000 is up for grabs across the entire National Series including the National Final. There is $30,000 available across the seven State qualifying events, while $75,000 will be split between the 16 clubs that make the National Final.

The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle also includes a Monster Raffle giveaway with one lucky ticket holder to drive away in a new Toyota RAV4. Other prizes include a Billabong pack valued at more than $1500 and a Nikon 1 AW1 camera valued at up to $1000. The Monster Raffle is open to all Surfing Australia affiliated boardrider clubs with proceeds returning to the boardriders club community.

The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle is proudly supported by Be the Influence – Tackling Binge Drinking, Billabong, Toyota, Nikon, Surfing Australia, the Association of Surfing Professionals, Coastalwatch, Surfing World and Surfing Queensland.
