22-year-old Brett Connellan has reportedly suffered lacerations to his leg and hand after a shark attack at 7pm on Wednesday 30th March.

The surfer was just 100 metres from shore at North Bombo, south of Wollongong, NSW when he was heard screaming in the water. He was assisted to shore by a friend before being stabilised by paramedics and airlifted to St. George Hospital in a serious condition.

Surf Life Saving NSW commented that "Swimming and surfing at dawn and dusk is not recommended and people should look out for schools of baitfish at any time of day."

Beach users should also be aware that heading into the cooler months, most beaches aren't patrolled currently during the week.

Information about the shark species and size will be determined from the injury sustained by the victim and released by the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
