Just before the Hurley Pro Trestles, we caught up with Jon Pyzel at the Waialua Sugarmill on the North Shore of Hawaii. He was just putting the final touches on his brand new shaping room in one of the dusty old warehouse spaces. The fresh lick of camo green paint and the air conditioning made stepping into the room feel like you were back in a big city. But I was there stepping into a new dimension; the place that the (then future) World Champion discusses his most prized possessions, the place his long-time, trusted shaper, and good friend Jon Pyzel makes his magic sticks.

In 2016, Pyzel told us that Florence's most frequently used board and board of choice was the 'Bastard'. Part of Pyzel's high-performance range, the Bastard is great for hollow beach breaks, reef breaks, point breaks. It has extra thickness and width through the front of the board for the power and the stability to help our with aerials. It has the most rocker out of any Pyzel boards and a single concave throughout the bottom to keep the board really loose making it
