All you Need to Know About Burleigh Single Fin

The Burleigh Heads Boardriders Club 22nd annual Single Fin Festival presented by Billabong and Vonu celebrates the surfing, surfboards and the times of the single fin surfboard era.

This event is truly memorable and sees surfers competing on single fin surfboards, made pre-1985. Past competitors include Parko, Taj Burrow, Rasta and Mick Fanning.

This year's event has confirmed Hawaiian legend Shane Dorian as a guest speaker at the charity luncheon (held on Fri 4th Jan, tickets available here), as well as a competitor in the event, while Parko has also been locked in as a starter. After winning in 2017 and now retired, he is now eligible to compete once more and is stoked to be part of it, despite recently saying he was keen to step away from competing. "As much as I am looking forward to hanging up the contest jersey to retire, I can't wait to put the singlet back on for the Single Fin," he shared.

"[It's] possibly the toughest field ever," he continued. "If the waves are good, it will be the most exciting event ever. Taj will be frothing to get in the water, he will be looking to defend his title and will be the one to watch.”

Parko will be on familiar equipment, a 1980s Alan Byrne six channel single fin. "My good mate Clay is lending me the same board that I won the event on in 2017, that he has kept it on ice for me and it's ready to go. I want to win another trophy, as I gave the last one to Clay as a thank you in 2017.”

With limited entries available and a chance to surf the Point with only six other people out, you'd be advised to register quickly

This has got to be one of the highlights of the Aussie surf schedule, with great surf, food, entertainment and classic boards all combining for a truly awesome day.

See you there!
