It would be easy to assume that most big-wave surfers have Nazaré-sized egos. And some probably do. Nathan Fletcher, however, does not.
“Out there, you can’t really have your ego up,” says Nathan. “You have to lose your culture, all your history — everything that you bring to the table has to be left on the beach, because you’re dealing with you and the ocean…”
Balancing futuristic surfing with skateboarding, snowboarding and motocross through his teens; mastering aerial surfing and heavy tuberiding in his twenties; reinventing himself as a big-wave pro in his thirties; and now influencing surfboard design and safety protocols — Nate Fletcher is still one of the most revered, yet unassuming surfers in the world today, and he offers some wisdom in the newest episode of Late Drop.
