The final round of the Victorian Championship Circuit Proudly Presented by Coopers is headed for the long walls of Bells Beach in what is to be a great battle for the prestigious title of Victorian Open Champion. With several surfers in both the men’s and women’s divisions with the opportunity to take out the title, the surfing will no doubt be of the highest standard.

The eldest Hughes brother, Steve Hughes (Aireys Inlet), is currently sitting in top position on the ratings and will look to consolidate his position with a win in the final round. Hughes came second in last years West Coast round behind his younger brother Peter, but will seek to go one better this year and keep the title within the family. Phillip Island surfer Carl Wright will endeavour to block the path of Hughes at the final round of the titles. The former Victorian Title holder, Wright holds the momentum going into the final event after taking out the second round of the Victoria Open Titles presented by Coopers at Gunnamatta beach on the Mornington Peninsular.

In a similar situation to Hughes, Amy Stewart (Jan Juc) currently leads the ratings and also came second last year in the west coast round at Jan Juc. Stewart needs to consolidate her current standing with a big score to ensure she holds the top position. Chasing Stewart into the final event is up and coming junior Jess Laing (Phillip Island). Laing has proven herself in the competitive arena, recently being crowned the Victorian Junior Champion, as well as taking out the first round of the Open circuit.

The stage is set for an epic battle in the big, cold walls of Bells Beach, and will be on not to be missed!

Entries for competitors close on Friday 29th August, 5pm.
