Margaret River Senior High Excelling In The Excellent Surf At The Soundwave Australian Junior Surfing Titles

Powerful waves with good shape and offshore winds are exactly what the pupils from Margaret River Senior High revel in and they dominated the day at Werri Beach on the surf rich South Coast of NSW on day 5 at the Soundwave Australian Junior Surfing Titles.

Margaret River's Shaun Manners is small in stature but big in heart and he lead the charge for Margaret River today, choosing to surf a barrelling right hand peak in his MR Shield semifinal and picking off a series of high scoring waves to advance his school to the finals of the Under 16 Boys.

Manners teamed with Tim Mattinson and in tomorrow's final they will face Palm Beach Currumbin pair Joe Brooker and Quinn Bruce.

Jacob Willcox was also a standout for Margaret River Senior High today posting an outstanding 9-point ride to charge into tomorrow's final with Josh Burke and they'll face Phillip Island pair Francis Meade and Joe Van Dijk who have been equally impressive.

It was all school surfing today mainly because the day had to be postponed early when gale force winds blew up and organisers were forced to call it a day early.

Other standout surfers today included Zac Wightman from Lennox Head (St Xavier College Ballina), Joe Brooker (Palm Beach Currumbin), Francis Meade (Newhaven College) and Zoe Clarke (Christian College).

Tasmanian pair Gerome Bramich and Tom Gray deserve mention for their admirable third placing representing Launceston College - they ripped today and went very close to making the Under 16 Boys Final.

The waves should continue to pump tomorrow and the location is expected to again be at Werri Beach - southern corner with many finals to be completed.
