They were given 72 hours notice to pack their gear, their vests, and quiver and get to Maui. Just off the road to Hana in the town of Haiku sits an underwater canyon famously known as Pe'ahi or Jaws.

The perfect conditions for a big, beautiful Pe'ahi include what was delivered on the weekend "25-35’ range over the afternoon, with max sets of 40-50’ faces later. Light NNE/NE wind as the swell builds."

34 year old Ian Walsh was invited to the event as a wildcard and Jaws is his homebreak. Ha, Jaws is his homebreak. He came up against fellow Maui men Kai Lenny and Billy Kemper in the final as well as Makuakai Rothman, Ryan Hipwood, and Greg Long, but it was Walsh who dominated. He walked away with the win and a perfect 10-point-ride that was insane.

Paige Alms lives just a couple of k's from Pe'ahi with her boyfriend and shaper Sean Ordonez. His boards are changing the way surfers surf big waves. Paige trains hard, plays hard and surfs big. Today, for the second year running she paddled out at Jaws with five other women and made her homebreak look like a good six-foot day. But all the girls charged, espcially Keala Kennelly. KK is not scared of a challenge or an intimidating wave. She positioned herelf in a critical area and scored wave after wave and despite snapping her board clean on the first, she was back out there without missing a beat.

The women surfed a 60 minute straight final and their lineup included Paige Alms, Keala Kennelly, Felicity Palmateer, Justine Dupont, Andrea Moller & Bianca Valenti. They surfed next level out there and it was so good to see them out there.
