Jack Robbo Is on Fire, a New Wave Pool in South Korea, and Sierra Kerr's Got Mega Hops!

Sierra Kerr is still just 13 and doing outrageous things on a surfboard.
COASTALWATCH | THIS WEEK IN SURFING
Ten Things from Surfing & the Internet on the Week That Was October 2 2020
1. Jack Robbo Is On Fire
West Australian Jack Robinson is on a bit of a roll of late despite the CT rookie's long awaited debut year delayed by Covid. In the past couple weeks he won Stab Mag's North Point showdown thing, made the semis of the Tweed Coast Pro (showing he's right up there in non-pumping surf too, now) and this week he's dropped his second clip of cutting room floor footage from the forthcoming Snapt4 surf vid. And it's a banger! Once again, it makes you wonder just how good the kept clips are going to be for his section when this movie finally comes out. It's kinda hard to fathom.
2. La Nina is On!
"You might already be onto the fact that we’re now entering the early stages of a La Niña event," writes Coastalwatch Chief Swell Forecaster Ben Macartney. "And as long as you don’t mind a bit of wet weather, that’s usually a good thing when it comes to surf over the coming months."
Read his full report over here.
3. There's a New Pool on the Radar
You know what they say, "It hasn't been a week of surfing on the internet, without some wave pool news...." A saying as old as the internet itself, that one. This week it's fresh footage of a WaveGarden pool in South Korea. It looks to be similar to the "cove design" that the URBNSurf Melbourne pool has, only longer, and maybe better?! Does that then make this the best functioning pool in the world now? Oof, Melbourne just can't catch a break this year...
4. Wade's Pentacoastal Offcuts
You might remember the very excellent feature length surf video Wade Goodall put out earlier this year, Pentacoastal. It ruled! Well, here is a cut of b-sides from the movie featuring Wade, Tanner Gudang and an American bloke worth keeping an eye on named Dane Reynolds. Fun times!
5. Ozzy Wright Is Still The Best Dude
Sometimes the internet just pops up with a new video of Ozzie Wright using footage from 2016, and no music cut to it... and it's great. Surfing near home just north of Byron, Ozzie embodies the old surf cliché of the best surfer is the one having the most fun. Also featuring Ellis Ericson and Josh Sleep.
6. Sierra Kerr's Got Hops
How long until we know Josh Kerr as Sierra Kerr's father? The super-talent hits the Texas wave pool and does the best aerial surfing by a 13-year-old girl in history. Sure, it's a wave pool, but my goodness is this something. Air, air air! Bolts, bolts, bolts!
7. Leo Fioravanti Jumps in the Vlog Game
The charismatic Italian surf star is launching his YouTube Vlog series and... sure, I guess, why not? He opens his account with the WSL's French Rendesvous comp where he made the semis and ultimately got knocked by the World Champ Italo Ferreira. As usual with these things, it's not the to-the-camera chat stuff or even the surf footage that makes these insightful, but the capturing of candid comp business we don't get to see on the broadcast – here it's watching him and his coach Richard Marsh in the locker room break down his performance and his goals.
8. Speaking of Leo, Here He is in Tahiti
Fioravanti and Aritz Aranburu say to hell with covid, hop on a plane to Tahiti and score pretty freaking good Teahupo'o. It's like we're all living on different timelines at the moment, isn't it? Landlocked Americans with the darkest timeline... professional surfers not in Australia, the brightest timeline.
9. The Things I'd Do to Be in the Maldives Right Now
Speaking of surfers in other parts of the world having a good time, here's a bunch of Brazillian Pros scoring in one of the most beautiful and accommodating surf zones in the world.
10. Styley Oscar Langburne In the Pool
A third pool clip? In one week? They said it couldn't be done, yet here we are. Mini-style merchant Oscar Langburne brings his Craig Anderson-like lines to the pool in Melbourne for Hayden Shapes. The pool is set to re-open in late October FYI... outbreaks pending.
And that was this week in surfing. Have a good weekend everyone.
