The first event of the VQS series for 2010/11 was held in WA at Scarborough Beach on October 9 in fun one-to-two foot waves up and down the beach after the swell maps where reading dead flat the night before.
The competitors started flocking down to the beach around 7am to sign up for the event, all pumped up for a big day of surfing and fun in the warm Western Australian sun.

The day was jam packed with heats starting with the girls, followed by the Groms, Juniors and Pro Am divisions. If you weren’t in the water surfing a heat there was lots of fun activities happening on the beach with games running all day from sand castle competitions to dance-offs with lots of prizes up for grabs.

The Electric Bolt Thrower “move of the day” was won by Mitch Taylor busting a big front side air and taking home fifty bucks cash and a pair of Electric sunnies
The girls final hit the water mid arvo with Bronte Macaullay taking out the final in true family style (her father Dave Macaullay was one of WA’s best goofy footers). Luciana Burke placed second, with Skip Van Peer 3rd and Emily Lucchesi 4th.

In the junior final we saw 3 of our Grom finalist make another appearance with Jacob Willox winning back to back finals and taking home a truck load of prizes. 2nd we had James Flemmimg 3rd Joshua Burke and in 4th Matt Baker.

The main event of the day was the pro am division with Darcy Maynard using his local knowledge to take out the event from Mitch Taylor, 3rd was Nicholas Muntz and Volcom’s own Cortney Brown coming in 4th
We finished with a presentation at around 4pm to top off a great day down at Scarborough Beach, with all the finalist winning entries into the Australian VQS Championships at Manly Beach on the 15th and 16th of April 2011. Well done to all those competitors.

Early morning bliss.
