Few places are more idyllic for surf adventures than the Mentawaii Islands. Not only for the abundance of world-class waves, and warm water but because today, the vessels that navigate this region are second to none. Moon Palikir is one of them, and thanks to our golden passport giveaway presented by World Surfaris it could be you and a friend on this wave hunting machine for the trip of a lifetime. It’s easy to enter, but first let’s catch up with the crew to find out what it would be like to jump onboard…

CW: The winner of the #goldenpassport wakes up on Moon Palikir. What’s the first thing they do that day?
G: You will wake up at one of the best surf spots in Indonesia, surrounded by pristine water, white sandy beaches and palm trees. Our chef will prepare mouth-watering meals to keep you energised throughout the day and the Bintangs will be icy cold for those afternoons when your arms turn to jelly and you're totally surfed-out!

Describe the vibe at Moon Palikir in one sentence…
Moon Palikir is made by surfers for surfers, built for chasing waves and not giving up the creature comforts that our guests deserve onboard. You will feel at home while our crew make it easy so you can focus on surfing!

What leaves people speechless on first impression?

What continues to surprise you about the Mentawais?
It’s a region that has waves all year long and offers many options for all skill levels of surfers to have a great time.

What quiver would you recommend for the waves in this region?
Bring your usual board, the one you feel comfortable with. In the smaller days you can surf with a 5'10 easily (depending on your size and skills) and the bigger days, if you are a charger, you can use your 7" gun for the deeper barrels. Most of the waves here are barreling waves or have a barrel section at some point. Bring your boots and if you feel more comfortable your helmet as well for the bigger days. It’s always very hot in the sun, so you may want to wear a singlet or UV proof shirt, maybe a hat to. In the rainy days it gets a bit chilly so you may want to wear a long sleeve shirt, but the water is always warm. Remember to bring extra fins and leashes. If you have a ding repair kit this may come in handy too. Don’t forget to bring plenty of sunscreen.

Talk us through a perfect day of surfing here...
You will wake up at one of the best surf spots in Mentawais according to the daily forecast. Our experienced surfguide will use all his local knowledge to find the best conditions with the least amount of people. Sometimes we can surf two or three different waves in one day, and sometimes the wave is so perfect at one spot that we stay there three days surfing by ourselves. All you have to think about is which board you want to use! You can have your morning surf and come back to the boat picked up by the speedboat and have a delicious breakfast with machine made coffee, fruits, toasts, omelettes, pancakes....

You can chill on the top deck with your mate and get ready for another sesh or you can go explore the island by paddle board or simply gowalk on the beach. Lunch is served around 1pm, a nutritious meal to energize our guests for 12 days of surfing. You have all evening to relax and surf as much as you like. Icy Bintangs are always ready for our guests. At night we serve dinner and our photographer will play photos/videos from the day. It’s a great laid-back moment where all the guests can laugh and cheer at each others barrels, manoeuvers or wipe-outs! And of coursetake home a couple of mementos from their time in the islands.
